Mask detection with people counters - #wearyourmask

With an additional plugin, the people counters used by qnips can now also detect whether your guests are wearing a mask or not! The People Counter's digital capacity utilization display measures in real time at the entrance and exit of your restaurant the number of people entering or leaving.


Using its 3D sensor, the People Counter can now also determine whether the respective guest is wearing a mask or not. If this is not the case, the display gives a hint in form of an info text and an icon and instructs the guest to put on a mask. 

Like all other settings, this feature can be managed manually at the People Counter or in the qnips Dashboard. All displays of the People Counter and the information to the guest can be individually designed and adapted to your corporate design. 

Just contact your qnips contact person and activate your mask detection feature!

Multilingualism for media objects

From now on, media objects such as images and videos can be stored in multiple languages, just like multilingual content texts. 


To do this, you can simply define the image/video for the respective language in the content area of the dashboard as usual. 

If you do not want to store additional images/videos for your multilingual content, the system automatically uses the media object of the primary language.

People Counter view now also visible in the dashboard!

With the people counters you can measure the capacity of visitors in your stores. You can set a limit for the maximum capacity and always see exactly how many people are in the company restaurant. You also receive statistics on the average capacity utilization of the various weekdays and times.

Transfer a capacity display to your app or your catering portal to show your employees what the current occupancy rate is in the company restaurant and how many seats are still available.


Up to now you had the possibility to control and view the settings for your people counters exclusively via the qnips app.

From now on you can also manage your people counters via the dashboard!
Simply select the respective store in your partnership in the menu item "People Counter" and click on the respective zone.


Here you can manage your settings, for example, you can specify a maximum capacity or define levels for the capacity display. You can also display statistics for individual weekdays and times.

Control the flow of visitors directly in your company restaurant with an eye-catching digital display or "Corona traffic light" at the entrance. This can also be easily realised with already installed people counters.

New image editing system in the dashboard!

From now on you will find predefined picture ratios for the individual display options in the qnips app and the Catering Portal in the "Media" tab of the content area of the dashboard. 

Depending on the required display position, simply add your own image material or images from the Unsplash integration in the correct format. (Currently the apps always insert the original image, with the next update round the apps will then use the image section with the correct format.)


The new cropping tool allows you to define the correct picture detail in addition to the format. Make sure that no important detail is cropped in the selected image format. 

If you don't have the capacity to insert your images in the different formats, the system simply reverts to the original and uses it for the selected display option.

User administration - separation of order view and ordering system

From now on you can further subdivide the permissions for menu management in the user administration in your dashboard.


The view of the received orders has to be released for authorization separately from the configuration of the ordering system (the latter should not simply be changed by every dashboard user).

To do so, go to "Edit user" in the user management and select or deselect the authorization for "Menu plan preorder management " under "Menu plan management ".

Online reservations now also available in the Catering Portal!

From now on you can use the qnips reservation widget not only on your own website or via the qnips app, but also in your catering portal.

Just go to the reservation widget via the menu item "Reservation" and select the appropriate branch. Then check "Reservations Catering Portal" and activate the online reservations. All other reservation settings can still be made in the same way as for online reservations in the app or via the qnips reservation widget.

Order system: component groups for product variations

In view of upcoming enhancements to our ordering system, we have significantly expanded the functionality of the components of a product.


Up to now, we have only divided the product into main components and secondary components. This has an impact on the allergen filter in the apps and in the catering portal, because secondary components can be replaced or omitted to avoid intolerances. Accordingly, the warning displayed in the frontends also differs.


From now on, components within a product can be grouped as you like, each group being either of the type "mandatory components" or "optional components". 

Previous main components were migrated to a group of the type "mandatory components", previous secondary components to a group of "optional components".

In addition to the effect on the allergen filter, many new features can be used in the ordering system via the groups in the future. While all components from mandatory component groups are, as before, a fixed component of a product, the orderer can be given numerous variation options for a product via optional component groups.

  • Deselection of components: e.g. "without cucumber", "without olives
  • Exchange of components: e.g. "butter instead of margarine", "grain roll instead of wheat roll".
  • Quantity change of components: e.g. "double-shot espresso", "double cheese
  • Adding extras: e.g. "with fried egg", "with chili flakes"

The system gives you extensive options for the selection and deselection of components in terms of quantity and price.

Component groups can now be used in the dashboard, the rollout for the order front ends is planned for June.

Of course, you are welcome to already contact your qnips contact person regarding possible applications and wishes.

Selection of payment methods from the dashboard

The qnips Dashboard now offers extended functions for the selection of payment methods for ordering Systems!

Here's how it works:
From now on you can select in your dashboard under "Edit branch" which payment methods can be used for this location and directly create possible links to payment service providers like Stripe or PayPal.
Directly on the menu you can then make a further selection for the respective ordering system as a subset of the payment methods of the location.

Did you already know?
Digital ordering processes enable the contactless supply of employees in the building, as well as in the home office and thus open up additional secure supply channels. This also includes payment methods for contactless payment.

qnips offers individual solutions for ordering and payment systems:

  • Delivery directly to the workplace
    Order & pay via App & Webshop for catering on the factory premises.
  • Pick up by the table guests
    Orders via App & Webshop for self pickup in the restaurant.
  • Reservation with order
    Reserve seats & menus to compensate for a small contingent of seats.

Videos for content creation

In addition to a matching image, you can now upload videos in the content area of your dashboard. 

Inform your employees for example with a short video about news and action weeks! 

Since the automated provisioning in various frontends as a picture alternative is very complex, please note the following Information:

  • In the Catering Portal, you can use videos wherever you have previously used content with Images
  • In the apps you can insert videos (after the latest "update noise") on the start page at the top of the slider.

To include videos at other places in the app, please contact your project manager in our company directly. Due to the predominantly mobile use of the app with limited data volume of your users, videos should be integrated very sparingly in the apps one way or another.

License view for Admins

From now on, your administrators have an overview in the Dashboard, where all qnips licenses e.g. for new locations, digital signage, pre-order functions etc. can be viewed.

This way, you always have an overview of all used licenses and you can also activate or remove new functions for individual locations.
